Shakira almost had to cancel a show in Tenerife at the last minute after falling ill with a virus.
The Latin singer is in the middle of her European tour and was scheduled to perform at the island's Heliodoro Stadium when she developed a painful throat infection and high temperature.
A source told Contactmusic: "Shakira was feeling lousy and had a fever all day. It was touch and go if she was going to perform until half-an-hour before she was due on."
Determined not to disappoint her fans, the 'Hips Don't Lie' performer overcame her symptoms and went on stage.
However, the bug did have an effect on the star's performance. Instead of her usual revealing outfits, doctors ordered Shakira to cover up.
"That's why she wore trousers on stage - even when she put on her belly dancer's outfit," the source revealed.
